Hey guys, I know I have been absent for a while. I started a comission for a new client and let's just say: it went a bit all over the place. But I learned a ton (still learning, since I am not done yet) and I consider it a good experience. Since I want to show all the work that went into it but it is not done, I hope you are fine with me posting something else in the meantime. I am currently at my parents' house, without my girl and my child (missing them). But although I could have slept until 10am I woke up at 6:30 as usual. I couldn't sleep so I decided to do something with my time and build a stilllife and painted it. I am using a hard, chalk brush for the drawing and color-lay-in. I keep the planes seperated for easier manipulation. The hardest thing as usual is getting a good drawing. I used to underestimate the difficulty of drawing in the right perspective, so using blocky forms like the wooden blocks is a good way of training that in my opinion. I also wanted an ellipse in there so the watch was a good choice. I tried to stick to the hard brush for most of the things, because I like the simplicity and immediacy of the mark-making. For blending I just lowered the opacity manually to 10 or 20%. For the highlights on the watch I used the dodge-tool, it is just the easiest way to get a metal-look. I will upload the PSD, so if you are interested in the layer-management (though it isn't something special), you are invited to do so. Hope you have a nice day and talk to you soon. All the best, Flo
