I did get an assignment, where I had to paint 3 characters in a lineup. I want to show some of the sketches and preliminary work, that went into this piece. The character descriptions were pretty direct, but still I did some sketches in pencil to decide on the design. After deciding on a design for the characters, I wanted to get to poses. I used ClipStudioPaint for this. We decided on pose nr 6 and I went on to a light / color sketch. After that I draw the lineart above the poses. I then fill in the layers, lay down local colors, add a shadow-layer (layermode "multiply") to adjust the overall ambient light and paint in the light with an "overlay"-layer. As quick and dirty this is, it helps me to get a feel for the materials and the forms. After this I used every trick in my book and asked for advice to make the piece better. This was a lot of fun and I hope you learned something.
