I am trying to simplify the shapes and planes of the head after doing a more 1 to 1 study of a photo.

I struggle with proportion and forms of the human body. Thankfully there is a ton of liturature out there for knowledge, but practice has to happen too. So I am learning the theory from the Famous Artist Course vol. 4. After that it is repeating what I learned and keep a conversation running in my head about what I am drawing and am not understanding. I kept doing that until it started to get easier and I could transfer what I have learned to studies from photo or to drawing from memory.
One thing I don't want to forget is that drawing with pencil makes it harder to achieve something that looks finished. At least that is what I feel. Drawing with coal or ink makes it easier because you have the full value-scale (light to dark). With pencil you only get to dark grey and even the soft ones leave a shiny surface. So that is maybe why something like Ink-Tober is so successful? All the best, Flo |
This is my blog. I will share information about workflow, my insights into image-making or just general thoughts and rants about being an artist. Archives
