My daughter turns 1 today! I am so proud and happy!
To keep this blog rolling here is little gift to you: http://drawabox.com/ On drawabox.com you find exercises to help you learn drawing. I did some of them below. Enjoy and have a great day! Some figures, trying to do it a bit like Jeff Watts. Go check his videos, the guy is awesome:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zKfsZaNrmzM I also did some fundamentals like drawing circles, straight lines, etc. Those are really hard, especially digital. I also watched some of Anthony Jones Gumroad tutorials, which you can find here: https://gumroad.com/robotpencil# After watching "painting with confidence" I was super pumped and tried it myself. Failing pretty much, but learning something on the way. I also did a quick still life, around 20 min, of 2 oranges. What I found most interesting was that the cast shadow was colored where the light hit the oranges and then went into the shadow. Weird stuff and I am not sure, if I really understood it. Lastly I started the second assignment for the Mentorship, this time only dark objects. this is one part of the second assignment for the Mentorship I am doing
arranging a still life, making a photo from it and do a study from it 8 h so far, only light objects, next only dark objects Today I painted 4 floor-tiles for the game. I used PS and Krita for this. Krita is a freeware programm, with the very useful setting: by pressing "W" it tiles your texture, so can see if it fits next to each other! Helped me a lot, so check it out, maybe you'll like it. :)
I spend 2 weeks with my parents over the holidays. It was good to see them for such a long time. When I visited Freiburg I went to the Augustiner Museum and saw, for the first time, paintings by Franz Xaver Winterhalter. From one of them I did a study, it took 3,5 h. There was a person, who gave us instructions and she helped me in the beginning stages of the drawing to lay out the grid and get the proportions right. Usually I don't spend enough time in those critical measurements and jump right to the values. So this time, forcing me to get it right in the beginning was challanging but I learned a lot. A random value exercise, trying to get a good read on each value group.
